Painted and White Oak Cut String

This classic cut string stairs (where the tread can be seen extending out over the side string) has a beautful balance of hardwood and softwood components. They used white oak everywhere their hand or foot touched, which offeres a striking contrast with the red deal components which were painted white, This combination has the benifit of the durable hardwood where you have the most wear and tear.

This staircase starts with a curtail step and white oak scroll. The style of newel posts are white oak turned with acorn tops combined with standard red deal turned balusters. This stairs works perfectly in this classically styled home and was feautured in the Dec '08 / Jan '09 issue of Upstairs Downstais Magazine.
